About the Board
Farmer ownership is a critical factor in Silver Fern Farms’ success. It ensures the company can deliver quality because the supplier of livestock has a direct interest in ensuring that the company performs well in the marketplace.
Farmer representatives are elected onto the Silver Fern Farms board of directors. In this way, the shareholders effectively control the company they own, through their nominated directors.
Eoin Garden
Chairman Joined the Board in 1998. Operates 2500 ha high country and finishing land at Millers Flat, and another 160 ha dedicated finishing unit. His 10,000 su include sheep, cattle and deer. |
Richard Somerville
Deputy Chairman (independent) Appointed to the Board in 2004; Finance Committee Chairman. Chartered accountant. Chairman of Milford Asset Management Ltd. |

Angus Mabin
Director Farms bull-beef on 1000 ha in Waipukurau, Central Hawke’s Bay. Currently on the management committee of the High Performance Farming Programme in Hawke’s Bay. Held a number of positions in the deer industry during the 1990s. |

David Shaw
Director Re-elected to the Board in 2011. Farms 650 ha south of Balclutha, running a large-scale beef and lamb finishing operation with farm forestry. Kellogg and FAME scholar. |
