East Otago sheep and beef farmer Rob Lawson is the new face at the Silver Fern Farms' board table following his election as a director representing South Island - South Waitaki, the company announced at its annual meeting of shareholders held today in Dunedin. Murray Borthwick retained his South Waitaki seat while Angus Mabin was re-elected unopposed from the North Island - East district.
Bruce McNab has resigned from his position of director effective from the conclusion of the annual meeting.
A third generation shareholder, Mr Lawson farms 'Moana', a 10,000 stock unit sheep and beef property in East Otago. He is the current chairman of Otago Federated Farmers Meat and Fibre section, chairman of the NZ Cricket Player's Association, and has been captain of the Otago Cricket team for four seasons, in a career spanning 11 years.
He believes the company needs to focus on growing emerging markets and reducing reliance on the European Union, progress industry initiatives that will benefit Silver Fern Farms' shareholders, and streamline the governance structure to better support the business.
